My name is Eleanor Rockett, and I am an Associate Lecturer at LCF and the Intellectual Property Educator at UAL. My chosen pronouns are she/her. I am a driven and hard-working white British educator working in Intellectual Property and Fashion Business. Education has been a central factor and value in my family and upbringing. Both of my grandfathers have PhD qualifications and my parents both hold a masters degree. Both from a personal and professional perspective learning to find something outside of work and learning is something that I have had to work on independently coming from such a work driven family background.
I come from a small town in Shropshire a mostly white middle class neighbourhood, but I went to school in Wolverhampton, a culturally diverse area. I was state educated until sixth form where I won an academic scholarship to study at a private grammar school. I am very aware that I come from a privileged background, but I feel grounded by the fact that I have always had to work for what I have gained, and nothing has been given to me. I have worked since age 14 in a variety of service and customer facing roles. I think that my collective, collaborative, and open approach has allowed me to learn from others from differing backgrounds and be aware of my potential biases.
Within academia I have 2 years of experience in a diverse classroom delivering fashion business and intellectual property sessions. My research and teaching are informed by a commitment to independent, self-funded fashion designers and brands and facilitating their access to facilities and connections within industry. Collaboration and working with others forms a central part of my academic practice and I hugely value those that I work with.
